PGA Tour Americas in Colombia: What This Means for Latin American Golf

Club El Rincón de Cajicá hosts PGA Tour Americas for the fourth consecutive year. What this means for Colombian golf and how to combine it with a trip.

In June 2023, the PGA Tour announced the restructuring of its developmental circuits in Latin America. What was formerly the PGA Tour Latinoamérica — a tour with over a decade of history — became PGA Tour Americas, formally integrating into the official PGA Tour ecosystem. Since 2024, the circuit operates with official status and valid points to advance to the Korn Ferry Tour, the direct step to the PGA Tour.

In this context, Colombia has hosted the circuit’s Colombian tournament for four consecutive years: 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026. The venue is always the same: Club El Rincón de Cajicá, on the outskirts of Bogotá. The 2026 tournament will be held June 11-14, as part of the Latin America Swing.

What is PGA Tour Americas

PGA Tour Americas is one of three official PGA Tour developmental tours, alongside the Korn Ferry Tour (second tier) and PGA Tour Canada. Its function: to identify and develop professional players in Latin America and Canada, with a defined pathway to the main PGA Tour.

Former name: PGA Tour Latinoamérica

Renamed: PGA Tour Americas (2023, efectivo 2024)

Level: Official PGA Tour developmental circuit

Next step: Korn Ferry Tour (via points and ranking)

Venues: Canada + Latin America

The circuit’s annual calendar is divided into two “swings”: the Latin America Swing (January–June) and the North America Swing (July–September, in Canada). The Colombian event traditionally closes the Latin America Swing.

Why El Rincón

Why El Rincón

Club El Rincón de Cajicá was not chosen by chance. It is one of the oldest and most respected courses in Colombia, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1957. Its 7,464 yards, demanding greens, and altitude (2,550 meters / 8,366 ft) make it a complete test for professionals.

Additionally, El Rincón already had a history with international tournaments: it hosted the World Cup of Professional Golf in 1980, one of the first globally significant tournaments held in South America.

At the 2023 World Golf Awards, El Rincón was named Best Golf Course in Colombia — a recognition that confirmed its position as the country’s tournament club.

What This Means for Colombian Golf

What This Means for Colombian Golf

1. Guaranteed International Exposure

A PGA Tour Americas event receives coverage on the official PGA Tour channels — including international streaming, official statistics, and distribution in specialized media. For a country fighting to be recognized as a golf destination, having “Cajicá, Colombia” on Golf Channel screens every June is an asset difficult to quantify but very real.

2. A Platform for Colombian Players

Colombian professionals can compete at “home” without spending on international travel. This allows them to accumulate points to advance to the Korn Ferry Tour — the path followed by Camilo Villegas and Sebastián Muñoz before reaching the PGA Tour. Without a developmental circuit in their own country, many talents would have to emigrate before being ready.

3. A Technical Standard for the Country’s Courses

Having an official PGA Tour tournament in the country requires maintaining the host course — and by extension, other top courses — at a professional standard. Agronomists, greenkeepers, and superintendents share best practices. The technical standard of Colombian golf has visibly risen in the last five years, partly thanks to this pressure.

4. High-End Golf Tourism

The tournament also attracts amateur golfers who want to play the same course where a professional just competed. It’s the same phenomenon that surrounds any PGA Tour venue: tournament week generates a halo effect that lasts months. El Rincón receives more international visit requests in the months following the Inter Rapidísimo Golf Championship.

How to Watch the 2026 Tournament

The Inter Rapidísimo Golf Championship 2026, a PGA Tour Americas event, takes place June 11–14 at Club El Rincón de Cajicá. Options to watch:

On-site: Public access is limited but possible through the organizers. It’s a very different experience from watching a major PGA Tour event — less crowd, more proximity to the players.

Streaming: Rounds are broadcast via the official PGA Tour channels (PGA Tour Live, subject to regional availability).

Social media: PGA Tour Americas and Club El Rincón publish daily recaps and results on their official accounts.

Combining the Tournament with a Golf Trip

June is a great window to visit Colombia: dry season in Bogotá, spring-like weather in Medellín, and low season in Cartagena before the December tourist peak. A possible itinerary combining the tournament with personal golf:

Week 1: Bogotá — attend PGA Tour Americas at El Rincón + play Serrezuela, La Cima, Pueblo Viejo.

Week 2: Extension to Cartagena (Karibana) or the Coffee Region (Pereira, Pete Dye).

For international golfers interested in attending the tournament and playing Colombia’s best courses on the same trip, Pelecanus can coordinate the complete itinerary.
