How many golf courses are in Colombia? Colombia has approximately 50 to 55 golf courses spread across 9 regions, from links courses at sea level on the Caribbean to mountain courses at over 3,000 meters (9,843 ft) altitude in the Andes. Of these, about 49 are certified by the Colombian Golf Federation (Fedegolf). In this guide we present all courses with designer, yardage, altitude, and location data.
Colombia is one of the best-kept secrets of golf in Latin America. With ~50–55 golf courses spread from the Caribbean beaches to the Andean highlands, the country offers unique geographic diversity: you can play at sea level in Cartagena in the morning and, a few hours later, be on a green at over 2,800 meters (9,186 ft) altitude in Boyacá. This is the official list, verified with the Colombian Golf Federation (Fedegolf) and our fieldwork.
Northern Colombia — Caribbean, Santander & Cúcuta
Caribbean Coast & Santander
The north gathers the most emblematic courses of the Colombian Caribbean and the Santander mountains. Karibana Links (Nicklaus, 2012) in Cartagena is the only course in Colombia with a certified Nicklaus design and regular host of the PGA Tour Americas. Its seaside links layout combines constant trade winds of 15–25 km/h (16 mph) with wide fairways over coral terrain, a unique technical challenge in Latin America. Lagos de Caujaral in Barranquilla offers its legendary Island Green and hosted the World Golf Awards 2024.
The Caribbean climate allows year-round play with temperatures between 28 and 33°C (91°F). The dry season (December–April) offers the best conditions; the rainy season (May–November) brings greener turf but humid afternoons. Coastal courses are played on Bermuda and Paspalum grass, varieties resistant to salinity and heat.
In Santander, the landscape changes drastically. Ruitoque (Nicklaus, 1997) sits on a canyon at 1,000 m (3,281 ft) altitude with elevation changes of up to 200 m (656 ft) between holes, maintaining a rating of 73.1/151 that ranks it among the Top 5 in South America. Club Miramar in Barrancabermeja, founded in 1928, is possibly the oldest golf club in Colombia. The Santander climate ranges from 24 °C (75 °F) in the Chicamocha canyon to 18 °C (64 °F) at Mesa de Los Santos, with moderate humidity ideal for play.

Central Colombia — Bogotá, Sabana, Coffee Region, Antioquia & Tolima
️ Highlands, Coffee Region & Antioquia
The central region concentrates the highest density of courses in the country with 34 courses distributed from the Bogotá Sabana to the Coffee Region and Antioquia. The Sabana, a highland plateau between 2,500 and 2,820 m (8,202–9,252 ft) altitude, is the heart of Colombian golf: here the ball flies 10–15% farther due to lower air density, transforming game strategy. Temperatures range from 12 to 18 °C (54–64 °F) year-round, with no marked seasons, and bimodal rains (April–May and October–November) keep fairways permanently green on Kikuyo grass.
El Rincón de Cajicá (Robert Trent Jones Sr., 1957) boasts the greatest architectural lineage in the country with a classic layout at 2,700 m (8,858 ft) altitude. Pueblo Viejo (Sokoloff/Gary Player) with a rating of 82.1/155 is the most difficult course in Colombia, while Serrezuela (Nicklaus/Villegas) will host the WGA 2025. Public options include Briceño 18 (7,319 yd, par 72), La Florida in the metropolitan park, and UMB Golf Club in Tocancipá.
The Coffee Region offers golf among coffee plantations and UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape. Pereira Golf Club (Pete Dye, 1979) at 1,430 m (4,692 ft) features a technical design with deep bunkers over rolling terrain. Armenia and Manizales complete the Coffee Triangle with courses of character and tradition. In Antioquia, El Rodeo (Moote & Watson, 1954) climbs from 1,486 to 2,120 m (4,875–6,955 ft) with an elevation change of over 600 m (1,969 ft), making it one of the most dramatic courses on the continent. The Antioquia climate, known as “eternal spring,” offers 22–28 °C (72–82 °F) ideal for golf.

Southern Colombia — Valle del Cauca, Cauca & Huila
Valle & Pacific
Southern Colombian golf is organized around Cali and Valle del Cauca, in the fertile inter-Andean valley of the Cauca River at approximately 1,000 m (3,281 ft) altitude. The warm climate (24–30 °C / 75–86 °F) with moderate humidity allows year-round play, though dry mornings from December to March offer ideal conditions. Courses stretch over flat to gently rolling terrain with Bermuda grass, and views of the Western Cordillera frame every hole.
Farallones (Fernando Gamboa, par 73, 7.413 yd) is the only course in Colombia with a par-6 hole and one of the longest layouts in the country. Club Campestre de Cali is a historic site: Arnold Palmer won the Colombian Open here in 1956, one of the first international tournaments in the country, and it was the founding venue of Fedegolf. Lake House (Club Campestre Los Andes) on the Pan-American Highway toward Popayán features a design where 80–90% of play involves water, a unique challenge in the region.
Club Shalom en Pance offers 9 holes in a quiet residential setting, ideal for quick rounds. Further south, Popayán and Neiva complete the region with provincial clubs that combine golf with the hospitality of southwestern Colombia. Valle del Cauca cuisine — recognized as among the best in the country — complements the golf experience with restaurants inside the clubs themselves.

How Altitude Affects Your Game
Altitude is the most important differentiating factor in Colombian golf. At sea level (Cartagena, Barranquilla, Montería) the ball flies with normal density and the Caribbean wind is your main opponent. At mid-altitude (1,000–1,500 m / 3,281–4,921 ft: Medellín, Coffee Region, Cali) the ball gains about 5–8% additional distance. On the Cundiboyacense Highland (2,500–2,820 m / 8,202–9,252 ft) distance increases by 10% to 15% — a driver that normally flies 230 m (755 ft) can roll past 260 m (853 ft). Golfers arriving in Bogotá for the first time often overshoot the greens during their entire first round.
