Everything About Luxury Golf in Colombia
About Pelecanus and Golf in Colombia
What sets Pelecanus apart from other golf operators?
Pelecanus is not a middleman — you work directly with Frank Spitzer, who has personally visited over 50 golf courses in Colombia. Every trip is individually designed, not assembled from a catalog. As the only IAGTO member in Colombia with Swiss standards, we offer a level of service no other operator can match. Learn more about Frank →
What languages do you speak?
Frank speaks German, Swiss German, English, Spanish, and French — direct communication with golfers from Europe, North America, and beyond, with no translation barriers.
What do the golf packages include?
Our custom packages include: green fees at the best courses, private transport between courses and hotels, luxury accommodation, exclusive culinary experiences, airport transfers, and personal 24/7 support. All coordinated by a single contact.
How far in advance do I need to plan a golf trip?
We recommend at least 4-6 weeks in advance to secure availability at the best courses and hotels. For high season (December-February) or large groups, 2-3 months is ideal. However, we can also organize last-minute trips depending on availability.
Do you organize trips for corporate groups?
Yes, we design complete corporate golf experiences — from private tournaments to executive retreats. We include full logistics: exclusive courses, networking dinners, group transportation, and team building options. Colombia is an ideal destination for corporate events thanks to its climate, air connectivity, and value for money.
Can you organize a trip that combines golf with other activities?
Absolutely. Our custom trips combine golf with unique experiences: coffee tours in the Coffee Region, colonial history in Cartagena, fine dining, birdwatching, spa and wellness. Each itinerary is tailored to the traveler’s interests and their companions.
Golf Courses in Colombia
How many golf courses are there in Colombia?
Colombia has over 50 golf courses, from championship courses designed by Jack Nicklaus and Robert Trent Jones near Bogotá at 2,600m altitude, to Caribbean links by the sea in Cartagena. Each region offers a completely different golf experience.
Can I play golf as a visitor at private clubs?
Most golf clubs in Colombia are private, but as an established IAGTO operator, Pelecanus has agreements and direct relationships with clubs that allow access for international golfers. We handle everything — from tee time reservations to club rentals and transportation.
What golf destinations do you recommend?
It depends on your preferences. For championship courses at altitude: Bogotá and surroundings. For golf with beach: Cartagena (Karibana Golf). For coffee landscapes: the Coffee Region (Armenia, Pereira). For spring-like weather year-round: Medellín. Pelecanus designs itineraries that combine the best courses with unique cultural experiences.
What is the most exclusive golf course in Colombia?
Ruitoque in Santander, designed by Jack Nicklaus, is consistently ranked among the top 5 in South America. With views of the Chicamocha Canyon, it offers an experience comparable to the best US courses. Karibana in Cartagena, also by Nicklaus, stands out as the only course with ocean views in Colombia.
Do I need to bring my own golf clubs?
We recommend bringing your own clubs. Most clubs in Colombia do not offer rental sets, and when available, the quality is often limited. Colombia allows entry of golf equipment without issues. Airlines typically charge for sports equipment — contact us and we’ll guide you on the best option for your trip.
What golf level do I need to play in Colombia?
All levels are welcome. From accessible and forgiving courses to championship courses with slope 150+, there are options for every handicap. Our knowledge of every course allows us to design itineraries that match your level and maximize your enjoyment.
Safety and Planning
Is it safe to travel to Colombia to play golf?
Colombia has undergone a remarkable transformation. The regions and golf clubs Pelecanus recommends are in safe, well-established areas. Every route, hotel, and course is personally explored — your itinerary is based on direct ground knowledge, not outdated guides.
Do I need a visa for Colombia?
Citizens of the US, Canada, the EU, UK, Australia, and most Western countries do not need a visa for tourist stays up to 90 days. A valid passport with at least 6 months validity is required.
How much does a golf trip to Colombia cost?
Every trip is custom-designed, so prices vary based on destinations, duration, accommodation level, and number of courses. Colombia offers exceptional value compared to golf destinations in the Caribbean or Europe. Contact us for a personalized, no-obligation quote.
What are the hotels near the golf courses like?
Colombia offers top-tier accommodation near all golf destinations. In Bogotá: JW Marriott, Four Seasons, W Hotel. In Cartagena: Sofitel Legend, Conrad, boutique hotels in the historic center. In Medellín: InterContinental, Marriott. All our packages include 4-5 star hotels selected for their quality and location.
What type of transportation is used during the trip?
All transfers are in private vehicles with professional drivers. Most drivers speak Spanish only, but we ensure clear communication throughout your trip. We offer all types of vehicles depending on your needs — from sedans to executive vans for larger groups. Transportation is always included with a golf arrangement. Domestic flights between cities are frequent and affordable (Bogotá–Cartagena: 1.5h, Bogotá–Medellín: 45 min).
