About the Coffee Region — Coffee Cultural Landscape
The Coffee Region — Colombia’s coffee triangle spanning Manizales, Pereira, and Armenia — offers golf within one of South America’s most spectacular landscapes. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011, the region combines volcanic mountains, green coffee valleys, and an authentic coffee culture found nowhere else in the world.
The region’s three courses offer distinct experiences: Club Campestre de Manizales (Watson & Mote) at 1,250 meters with views of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano, Club Campestre de Pereira designed by Pete Dye in 1979 — one of the few Dye designs in South America — and Club Campestre de Armenia (P.E. Uribe) surrounded by coffee farms. The natural elevation changes of the coffee landscape create unique mountain golf layouts.
Coffee Region Climate and Best Time to Play Golf
The Coffee Region has a humid temperate climate with temperatures between 18°C and 28°C depending on altitude. The region receives rain year-round, but the driest seasons are December-February and July-August. The best time to play is January-February when there are more sunny days. Mornings are usually clear, with afternoon rains — morning tee times are recommended.
Golf Courses in the Coffee Region
Colombia’s coffee region offers 3 golf courses between 1,250 and 1,500 m altitude, with spring-like temperatures (17–23°C) and volcanic landscapes declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

History of Golf in the Coffee Region
Golf in the coffee region has deep roots. Club Campestre de Manizales was founded in 1921, becoming one of the oldest sports institutions in Colombia. Its current course, designed by Howard Watson and Bob Mote in 1978, offers an undulating layout with spectacular views of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano.
In 1937, Club Campestre de Armenia was born, one of the most historic clubs in the country. Redesigned by Colombian architect Pedro E. Uribe in 1965, Armenia is a semi-private course accessible to visitors, located just 10 minutes from El Edén airport.
The region’s crown jewel arrived in 1979 with Club Campestre de Pereira, designed by the legendary Pete Dye — creator of TPC Sawgrass and Whistling Straits. Its iconic hole 7 “El Tobogán” (The Slide) is one of the most memorable in Colombia. The course is famous for its resident capybaras that roam the fairways, and features a 270-yard driving range and lighted putting green.
